Olight have released a new bike light to add to their ever growing collection… let’s see if it stands out from the crowd.

Overview

The Olight BFL 900 boasts a maximum output of 900 lumens and a 150-meter beam distance.

It has a built-in 2600mAh 18650 battery, rechargeable via the USB magnetic charging cable, which provides up to 13.5 hours of runtime.

• The manufacturer’s literature doesn’t specify what material the body is made of… however it looks and feels very premium and is probably made of an aluminium alloy like a lot of Olight’s torches.

Beam Quality

As with the RN 1500 which we have also tested, the beam quality is very good – providing a nice uniform wide spread beam.

The BFL 900 also has side light windows that increase visibility, allowing drivers and the like to see you more easily.

Charging

Charging occurs via the magnetic charging cable, which attaches directly to the tail of the light.

The magnet at the tail of the torch is very strong and easily attracts the charging pad, such that it can be done single-handedly.

The magnetic pad on the cable has a charging light next to it that lights up red when charging and green once fully charged and it takes 3 hours to fully charge the battery from flat.

The Olight magnetic charging cable is used on the majority of Olight’s torches and is a very unique and easy way to charge the torch, it has a standard USB on the other end that can be used with any USB plug or portable battery.

Power Button & Modes

The light is operated by a side switch that has an integrated battery indicator.

When the light is off, single pressing of the power button turns on the battery indicator to display the battery level as follows:

• Blue 100-21%
• Red 20-11%
• Flashing Red ≤10%

Long pressing on the power button turns the light on/off.

A single short click cycles through the brightness levels.

Mode memory function saves the last selected brightness level.

Bike Attachment

The handlebar mount comes with 4 straps in different lengths:

• No 2 – for handlebars with a diameter of 1″/25.4mm
• No 3 – for handlebars with a diameter of 1.1″/28mm
• No 5 – for drop and flat handlebars
• No 6 – for handlebars with a diameter of 1.25″/31.8mm
