It seems like an eternity since we were allowed to go camping… and even when it was allowed during this pandemic, it was with many restrictions.
So it will be great to get back to real, unconditional camping (of course the normal conditions that have always applied will still apply – like being considerate of others and not being a general all-round idiot…).
At some point this will happen – whether it’s this year or early next year is difficult to say, but it will happen.
Preparing For The Return
And so we can turn our attention to making some preparations for when that day arrives.
Even if you can’t plan when and where you will go (well – you could have an idea of where you want to go, but there’s no telling which campsites will open up first and how quickly they will get booked – so it might be an idea to hold off on the where until later)… you can still have all your gear ready, so that you’re not left frantically searching for some vital piece of equipment or trying to repair a hole in your tent at the last minute, just before the camping trip.
So you should get out all your camping gear from the loft or basement or wherever it is you store it and check everything is in working order and that nothing is missing.
Check out this camping checklist – it lists everything you need for a camp, summer or winter.
Get Everything Out
What is useful is to practically try all your gear, rather than just visually inspecting it – this allows you to make sure everything really works… your camping chair might look OK, but it’s probably best to sit in it and make certain it doesn’t collapse on you!
Fancy an upgrade to your existing camping chair – have a look at the fantastic Trail Outdoor Leisure Ketsrel Deluxe High Back Camping Chair.
If you really want to test all your gear out properly, you could spend a night camping in the garden… get out your tent, put it up and spend the night in it, this way you will definitely know if there are any issues that need dealing with.
Similarly, get out your sleeping bag, camping mat and everything else and really confirm that all of it is in good working order.
Conclusion
The world will go back to ‘normal’ one day and we’ll go back to doing the things we love and that we haven’t been able to over this last year.
For one, this whole episode has made me value the things I hold dear and enjoy even more… sometimes you don’t appreciate something until it’s taken from you.
And so for those of us who love camping and the outdoors, we’ll enjoy it and appreciate it all the more.
Happy camping!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post.
