The Olight i5T comes with a high performance cool white LED and is powered by a standard 1.5V AA Alkaline Battery with a maximum output of 300 lumens.
It’s very light and compact – weighing a mere 60g and measuring less than 10 cm in length.

My Impressions
Beam Quality
The i5T has a PMMA Optic Lens, giving off a large, defined wide hotspot.
This is similar to many of the other Olight torches that I have tested – I find the wide hotspot is a good balance between distance throw and near flood.
Power Source
The torch is powered by a single standard 1.5V AA alkaline battery, but can also use a rechargeable AA NiMH battery.
This is a move away from the custom batteries that are used in the majority of Olight torches and that require a specialised magnetic charging cable.
This is useful in that AA batteries are widely available and so you shouldn’t have a problem in getting replacement batteries when you’re out and about.
Power Button & Modes
The power button is located on the tail of the torch.
The i5T has 2 modes – high and low.
When the light is first turned on, low mode will be activated – by soft pressing the tail power button (without fully clicking), the torch will be activated momentarily.
You can cycle through momentary low and high mode by quickly soft pressing, letting go and soft pressing the power button again.
Deep pressing (you will hear a click) will activate the torch constantly.
By deep pressing again, the torch will deactivate and if it is deep pressed a further time within 2 seconds – it will switch to the alternative mode. If it is turned on over 2 seconds after it was turned off – it will activate the default low mode setting.
Clip
The i5T has a detachable stainless steel clip that can be used to attach the torch to items such as a belt or rucksack.
Body
The body has a pearled silicone surface and a double helix body knurling that gives ventilation and great anti-slip grip.
Conclusion
The Olight i5T is a decent EDC pocket torch.
Using standard AA batteries is useful if you are going to be somewhere where there won’t be a power source to charge a rechargeable torch – you can take a stack of spare AAs with you… and you do also have the option of rechargeable AA batteries too, although you would need to carry you own separate battery charger.
Having said that I really like Olight’s magnetic charging cable that is used on many of their torches and with the wide availability of portable power banks that could easily recharge a battery several times over – you could literally manage without a plug socket for a couple of weeks…
For me there are better alternatives to the i5T – the Olight Warrior Mini is a better all-rounder and if you want something a bit smaller, then the Olight Baton 3 is an excellent option.
Having said that the i5T is a fair bit cheaper than both of those, so if you’re on a budget, then it’s a pretty decent buy.
It’s available from Olight UK.
